The Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve

Loch Maree, Ross Shire. Beinn Eighe (pron. Ben Ay) mountain is situated by the very beautiful Loch Maree. This area is protected, being one of the few areas of Scotland left with the ancient Caledonian forest. There are 2 walks -a mountain trail and a lower level nature trail.
Mountain Trail: Allow 3.5 to 4 hours for this steep but rewarding walk/climb of approx. 1800ft with fabulous views across Loch Maree. Reasonable fitness needed. Also essential to have stout boots and warm and waterproof clothing.
Nature Trail: An informative nature trail guides you along the lower slopes of Beinn Eighe, taking you through various habitats along with information pointers on flora and fauna. Allow about 1 hour for this walk. It can be steep in places and muddy so wear stout shoes/boots.
